Forcing a pattern upon yourself reduces probability of doing something original that turns out to be great. My case is similar, but I do my stuff and if someone were to investigate me they would conclude I am a geek beyond redemption despite not doing much of what otakus are associated with stereotypically / surface level impressions. I picked a very narrow and specific path, very specific activities. If you are a base otaku and you pick a narrow specific path of choice somewhat related to otaku things you are even more of an otaku. Anime doesnt bring me as much joy as it used to, I hardly watch any anymore. I mostly watch documentaries all day long, collect very specific items, and utilize electronics in very specific ways. I forgot much of anime too.
