Asuka is beloved because a lot of losers (not talking down, just facts) resonate with her. Although talented, she's insecure and lonely deep inside and relies on attention to feel validated. She strives for perfection and superiority for this reason. But it's a lot of stress, trying to be ichiban, and sometimes this pursuit of the top can lead to reckless, destructive behavior (e.g. her infamous "CHANCE-U" clip). Other Asuka-likes include Rainbow Dash from MLP:FiM.
The people you speak of just sound like typical normalfags, so I can't really say whether they're like Asuka 1:1.
