The hardware is designed not to be tampered with, requiring either custom equipment from the manufacturer, or welding and soldering to do what you need. Partly for liability reasons (e.g. warranty invalidation), partly to make things "thinner" and "lighter", partly for "safety" reasons (in particular when it comes to changing battery cells, you don't want this to be attempted by a 60 IQ baboon).
At least that's the party line, but we all know it's really about planned obsolescence. The less people can fix things themselves, the more they have to buy the new stuff every 2 years.
