pretty much no one bought the PS3 at $600 and Sony spent the entirety of that generation playing catch up internationally lol
they made it in the end, after a lot of cost cutting

also, honestly, most people I've seen don't give as much of a shit about $400 for the machine (people would easily pay your stated $300) as they do about $80 per game - yes, some NES, Genesis, and N64 games were about that much, unadjusted for inflation even, but in every one of those cases, a third of the price was the physical cartridge ROMs or expansion hardware
eg, shit like FF6 and Phantasy Star 4 being $85-90 on launch because those were big 4MB ROMs with save RAM in 1994 (contrast pretty much every PS1 game because it cost like $1 to manufacture a CD), vs switch 2 games on a glorified SD card (or worse, straight downloads)

but also no one wants to support that shit and I sure as balls don't
prices are set by what the market can bear, and if the market is a fucking bitch, they will just roll over and pay despite that
and if the market isn't a fucking bitch, it won't accept it lol

IIRC, Nintendo had an actual case with Yuzu that ended up being settled in court with a major payment and I suspect things might have gone badly had yuzu tried to fight
while Ryujinx folded immediately once asked and it never hit the courts or anything
