I only started going out of my way to watch the full episodes recently, when it aired I just watched it if it happened to be on.
It's actually a lot better than I remember. Even when Vasquez's comedically dryer, more misanthropic writing leftover from JTHM starts to get phased out by "LOL WAFFLEZ!!" later on, the concept alone is enough to make it worth sitting through for me. It has this really unique "gothic sci-fi" style that I haven't seen properly replicated elsewhere, less so from other kid's shows. The shit it gets away with by having the deaths and gore be shown by shadows or implied off-screen is baffling.
Did Jhonen Vasquez even do any other cartoons? I would have thought he had but I couldn't name any.
