I say it doesn't need any fancy backstory (although anyone feeling like it could try writing long text stories with teh characters)
If I had the ability, I'd either draw fun/quick comic pages (moar examples: https://gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=list&tags=futaba_channel+comic ) or just their ero art
Up to u what you want to work on, but finishing something quick should feel better than failing halfway through a hueg project
