Konata → こなた → 此方
Kanata → かなた → 彼方

彼 and 此 are essentially opposites.

彼方 (Kanata) is traditionally the world where buddha lives, far away, the word is used as 'horizon' and all the world that is beyond it - that side and that place.

此方 (Konata) is traditionally the world where sentient beings that crave and desire live, meaning the opposite of 'horizon' and whatever lies beyond it - this side and this place.

Kanata is the mother of Konata.
Kanata is said to have died when Konata was little.
The name suggests that her father chose it not accidentally.

I think that Kanata died during Konata's birth, so her father chose the name relating Konata.
They are two opposites so there is nothing in between, suggesting he wished for Konata to be his only child if such was the fate.

Her mother left the world, but Konata is in this world.

Am I wrong?
