I know three Spanish kiddie movies: The Spirit of the Beehive, Cria Cuervos, and El Sur. The first two star the otherworldly beautiful Ana Torrent. That’s the only reason I decided to pick them up.

All three explore the crushing distance between children and the adult world. I liked The Spirit of the Beehive best. It really surprised me, since I knew absolutely nothing about it beforehand. It’s peaceful and meditative for the most part, and it offers a glimpse into life in a remote Spanish village. The visuals are also exceptional, every scene could be a painting.

Cria Cuervos was the most emotionally demanding, but it’s probably the easiest to recommend. It has an intriguing mystery, plenty of heartthrobs, and beautiful cinematography. Cool dancing scene, too.

El Sur was interesting, but the story feels incomplete because production was cut short due to a lack of funding. It’s a beautifully shot film, though boring at times. I watched it over two days. Not casting Ana was probably its biggest mistake, hehe.

If you go to the second page of Random, you might find screencap threads for these films. But I recommend just picking one and going in blind.
