I must be a nut, cause I don't actually hate ads that much.
Not that I *love* them--I take the usual precautions of plugins and all to reduce the amount I see, but running into them suddenly doesn't enrage me like it does other people. I look at them very semiotically and sociolectically in a way, so instead of my immediate reaction being "Ugh, consumerism." it's more like "wow, the way this is constructed is fascinating if you think about it...". I even like the strange scammy ones, cause it's like I'm listening to somebody throw down their weird village wisdom with total conviction. I think what it comes down to is I already know I'm not going to buy the thing so the manipulative tactics don't concern me.
