I've been lurking here today and it's crazy how much this place reminds me of the mid-2000s web. It made me realize how much I miss the actual physical vibe of the old internet.Back in the GoldSrc, IRC, and early forum days, the web felt like this giant, unmapped forest. If you stumbled onto a weird custom server or some random guy's geocities page, it felt like finding a digital ruin. Everything was low-res, the HTML was broken, and it felt genuinely mysterious, even a little bit haunting. Now everything online is corporate, super bright, and streamlined. There are no cozy shadows left because everything is run by algorithms trying to feed you content at Mach 5. We traded the mystery for efficiency. For the older heads here, what’s a specific memory you have of the internet feeling genuinely surreal or isolated before everything got centralized? For me it was grinding through old PC games at 4 AM on freezing winter nights, just trading weird text guides on forums.
