I was ranting to myself about this very question in the corner of my room today, and the short answer is yes.
It sucks now though, and there will never be a good "alternative" that essentially acts as a free-host for exiled good posters like x2Chan was
I don't think anyone has the willpower to make something like that happen anymore.
