Partly on purpose and planned obsolescence is one example of that. Partly just incompetence. Just stop thinking and update, get new stuff even if you don't really need it. Don't worry, you'll be forced to get new one way or another (peer pressure, fear of being left out, growing inconvenience). Oh, and don't you dare forget about all those scary security vulnerabilities of not staying on the bleeding edge, like not having the most up to date backdoors and tracking in your everything.
