>this anti remake sentiment has always struck me as being weird
the truly weird thing is how much acceptance remakes have received. why wouldn't i be against the idea of some talentless faggots taking the art from actual talented people, raping it however they feel like, replacing the original with it, and trying to sell it to me as if it was new and objectively better?
and don't tell me they aren't trying to replace them. GOG had to convince Crapcom the original RE games were still worth anything:
“Capcom were like, ‘we have all of those remakes. It’s already the superior experience to those games.’ They didn’t really see the value in bringing back the vanilla versions. It took a lot of convincing that there is an audience that has a lot of memories about those games, and would love to experience exactly the same game again. Thankfully, we were able to convince them.”
>maybe it is some kind of strange gatekeeping
it should be obvious that anyone who's against remakes want people to experience the actual games, how could that be "gatekeeping" LOL.
remaking a game implies videogames and art in general can become objectively out of date. the advancements in technology do not make previous art limited or obsolete.
