i think there have been several main issues in the last years that led us to this... the popularization of pads, for example, which exponentially increased the child userbase on the internet, which wasn't something entirely new even before but even when we browsed the internet as children it was usually through our family PC and we would be at least around 7 or so, while you will see literal babies using internet on their pads on the street ... Which would explain the massive content who could only be apprecaited by an extremely young audience. Another issue I feel like has been the explosion of cheap smartphones and mobile data in developing countries, filled with people who treat the internet similar to how people treated TV in the 50s; they would find anything entertaining, as long as its on their little screen. This caused an enormous trend of absolutely mind-rotting content on mainstream social media apps. Social media as a whole is another issue, I think social media can be entertaining if you find the right niche, which is what I do, but the decentralization of the internet truly is sad to see. 90% of the internet doesn't even use forums anymore, it's like everyone has no hobby anymore and will consume whatever the mainstream algorithm will feed them ┐(ﾟ～ﾟ)┌
