Like i said, it's a feeling i've always had. Like an aura of anti-coolness that isn't tied to the actual quality of the game. A lack of edge, sort of
For reference, here's my assortment of the other classic pokemon generations, again, simply by feeling, and the vibes they give off to me
Gen 1: The pioneer. It just is
Gen 2: Homely, and cool in a subtle way
Gen 4: Slick, but rough around the edges
Gen 5: Modern and slick
