Xlibre is not specifically a broken mess, X11 is a broken mess, and Xlibre - by inheriting X11's codebase, is by extension a broken mess.
And in the project's heyday, the Xlibre repository accepted 1200+ commits without any testing procedure; these folks aren't trustworthy enough to give your computer root access to.
