You dont have to be a big power to threaten a lawsuit, AO3 was founded because LiveJournal got threatened with lawsuits for some old gay fanfics. LiveJournal and FF.net both deleted a bunch of stuff.

The people in power arent who I generally fear, I generally fear weirdo individuals who wanna be stalkers or harass people. And those are the kinds of people who harass sites to try and get them to delete stuff. Like when Collective Shout went on a campaign to censor Steam and itch.io got fucked up in the process.

Any site that gets a lot of traction needs protection from angry internet sperg mobs. Same general idea behind why the average person needs a lock on their front door.
