british funded both southern separatists and abolitionists, mind you british were still salty about the revolution and believed america belonged to them.
britain was the hub of globalism in those times, and internationalists from britain thought they could still milk american resources by importing slaves and cultivating land in the south witch which the raw materials would be shipped to britain to be processed and sold back to america
Americans at the time saw this as exploitative, and whigs especially wanted to industrialize and use their own resources, which is why they initially opposed slavery, not because they felt bad for blacks but because international capitalists from britain were importing them to rape land of resources that would be sent to britain turned into clothes that americans would then pay for.
