I can sometimes feel appeal in 3D, but there is something "suffocating" about it I can't explain well.

Imagine ur introverted and have to do some ghey formal presentation out of unwanted responsibility pushed upon you - that is seeing 3D. Escaping to your dark bedroom with a big food stack, locking door and putting on 52 episodes of anime (or some long vidya game if u prefer that) is how seeing 2D feels like in comparison.
