Depends on what culture you're from, and the laws of your country. I'm a NEET on government disability and drug addiction is one of the medical reasons they give me money. As for parents, you could always just smoke weed outside, or swallow drugs while they're asleep and piss in a bottle to avoid leaving your room.

It's like they say in the Welcome to the NHK manga and anime, everyone needs someone to look down on. Sober NEETs hate drug NEETs because it makes them feel better about themselves, I think that's the real reason you always see that attitude.
