I hate how there's a subset of new anime fans that are so obsessed with the "cringe/not cringe" dichotomy that they either keep their interests at an arm's distance for fear of seeming too attached to anime or they go all in on early-web fetishism and wear their Invader Zim bullshit to conventions and play up the Otaku angle. The latter are terrible; do they think people don't know how much they're forcing it? It's mainly teens to twenty-somethings that do these and it's really sad to see people forget that you can like things without needing to have an agenda behind it. Just learn how to be genuine already

Also most new guys seem to not watch anime all that often. They just play (smartphone) games with anime characters in them and know about some anime from "memes" or whatever
