In my prime I could approach 70 without stopping with very good form. at that point I'd start trembling and reach that thing where you'd go down but not be able to come back up no matter how much you exert, without a little stop. I've plummeted probably to 20 now because no upper body exercise in ages, but I'm going to fix that. I've heard swimming is a good full-body exercise, and would be far cheaper than my priority choice which is ring gymnastics.

i have struggled with the ideas in this thread a lot. i know purposely exposing myself to the constant flow of horrible things in this world is never going to help me, as i am just a neet that has no real effect on society and all i care about is what food to pick up at at the grocery store based on what looks yummiest and which anime and manga to consume, so why should i make myself feel more miserable over things i have no control over and that will never really affect me? i can't get invested in world politics or even my local politics, i don't educate myself on it and i never vote. no matter how many people try to convince me that it's the end of the world if X person gets elected and they will utterly ruin my country, nothing in my life changes. something deep down in my brain tells me that living only for my own pleasure and comfort is deeply wrong, and i am pathetic for not caring about my community and the wider population at large, and i *should* feel something, but i don't know what i should feel, how i should contribute.

i wish i didn't feel so bad for just living my life in comfort and simplicity, just eating food and watching old anime and meditating like buddhism anon was talking about (people have lots of misconceptions of what meditation is, it's not even inherently spiritual, its simply observing your passing thoughts and entering a mindful state) because i feel very content with my life. but i feel guilty that i am not integrated into society. yet being part of society means i need to care about so much horrible stressful things and have to be updated with all the current horrible events or else people will think i am bigoted or lazy or "part of the problem" and ostracize me.

i don't even know if this response makes sense for this thread but it triggered some feelings within me that i wanted to write down. (´人｀)

I think Buddhism is a good path (actual Buddhism not that new age stuff) and maybe you should find your local Buddhist temple and just volunteer to help out there.

I cut out all media in my life. I dont watch movies or shows, play games, no social media, no TV, I dont even browse the web normally, I havent even been here in a month.
But it doesn't get better. I thought it would, but if anything the dark pit becomes more consuming and frightening. Besides reading books which tires me out a lot, I've basically got just hanging out with friends, who are all hooked on the aforementioned shit. I wonder if the last laugh will be mine as I hack out my lungs on my deathbed, or if it shall be theirs. Or what even is the point of caring about any of that.
See I cannot even talk about this feeling with them, the last time I did they thought I was depressed and suicidal. You cannot carry on in this way if they frame it as coming from a mentally ill person, it falls on deaf ears. Or like, they do receive it, but in a super-diluted shallow way, which is even worse. You know what they are gonna respond but you know they are a hypocrite as well. Ties back to the whole feeling of artificialness, simulation in real life... I HATE IT.

The real cause of the malaise is social retardation. We are scared of socializing yet we crave it at the same time, as it has always been. But now we have built ways to simualte the socialization at a lower quality, with the tradeoff of near-zero risk. This anti-solution to the problem is not unfamiliar and can be observed elsewhere acting in an economic fashion.
I mean you could seek out people insulated from this, maybe tradespeople or homeless people. have fun with those types, can't even string two coherent sentences together most of them. What a real sorry state to be it.

Socializing can enhance, but it requires a foundation.

In conclusion, not only is it hard to do much of anything with one another, it's also hard

I think 4chan being segmented into too many communities that don't mix anymore is part of the reason it lost its culture. The common culture Heyurizens share is something special I like.
