Do you ever think about how many statistical anomaly types you casually run into online? For example, I'm pretty sure a number of people here are autistic or something, but personally, I've never met an autistic person in even once in my real life. And from what I've read, autistic people finding each other in real life is very rare.Or members of different races; you run into them often enough online,(as they never cease to remind you.),but in real life I've never met a Jew or a Latino, and hardly spoken to any Asians.

Basically what I'm getting at is that I feel like this has certain unacknowledged implications on things like giving and recieving advice. If you ask for advice in a large forum, on something like romance you will attract people who are interested in the topic of romance, but beyond that they will have no commonality.

Some will be hopeless romantics, others will be cold pragmatists, some will be playboys and some will be prudes, some will be lucky in love and others will be coming off a bad breakup. Basically, it's too many myriad experiences to be useful to. Too many choices at play.

Even worse, these people don't know you. If you're a sensible person you probably didn't give away much info about yourself, but even if you give loads, some stranger can't perfectly reconstruct the situation you're in--thus their advice will be hopelessly general and be more about 'what worked for me.' than relevant to your situation. And again that notion of myriad experiences (with a number of statistical anomalies in the mix) comes in.

Let's say you ask for advice on the best way to approach a girl. You have this idea about how if you see one you like at the park you'll approach her and say hi. However, the forum you proposed this idea on has an unusually high number of chicks who hate being hit on by random guys, higher than in the general population of women in real life, so of course they tell you that whichever girl you might go for will also hate being hit on by a random guy. But how can they be sure? They don't know you or the girl. Maybe she is an accommodating person and an approach like that is perfectly fine for her.

I was just considering how getting advice and ideas about things from the Internet is an (obviously) crappy idea because any thread on any given topic is a tiny sample size, and a biased one at that, so after reading thru the whole thing you leave with very slanted ideas that don't really reflect the general population or really tell you what you should do.

If you allow me to get vaguely political, just earlier I was reading a thread on Reddit where the OP asked if the 1970s were 'as creepy as they seem in hindsight', which prompted several women to say that yes, they were creepy, and cite various negative experiences women faced, like sexual assault and such.

This got me thinking about the numerous other threads I'd seen where women expressed no problems with living in the 70s (anymore than any other decade), many even considering it better than right now, and feeling glad they were around then.

That's when it occurred to me that every thread courts a certain audience, first culled from the general userbase of the site (who in the majority cling to a certain worldview), then further culled by the 'group' which the thread came out of (subreddit or whatever else), which is focused on a certain topic, and approaches that topic according to the biases of the site (as well as some of their own), and then the OP, aware subconciously of the inherent biases in the site, uses leading language in their original post, aiming to court a certain audience.

Like in my example, why would the OP use the phrase 'as creepy as they seem in hindsight' unless they were seeking to court an audience that would confirm their pre-conceived biases?

It's true, but the same applies IRL - more so in fact. As long as you're asking in multiple sites/groups, the Internet is a far broader pool of opinions than you could ever hope to find IRL. Whether that makes it better or not is debatable

As a kid my sensei/parents always suspected I was autistic, though I failed professional tests for it
It took several meetings with some psychiatrist very later on, until getting told about SzPD. At least that explained why was I being asked about hearing voices all the time (schizophrenia's negative symptoms are apparently similar) purin

"Every time I'd see some international political news (usually war-related) in my college cafeteria, I would somberly utter,
"So that's what the world has chosen...".
Then I would pretend to make a call on my cell phone, spouting off lines like, "It's me. It seems as though xxx (some president's name) is going to take us on..."
Then I would say, "Yes, I understand. It is his decision to make in the end. La jodasoh steana (made-up words of farewell)." in the most gravest of tones, and finish my meal with a lonely air about myself.
I'd always intimidate the people around me like this."

I didn't know John Titor existed outside of Steins; until I went to a lecture where he got brought up, so I was briefly exited that the lecturer was a fan in that moment.
>>
>>11074
But little did 11074-san know, that when the lecture was over and all the students have left for their dorms, their professor is a very different man. Alone in the lecture hall, sitting in his office chair, he whispers to himself... "El...Psy...Congroo..."

I can only report that the lecture ended early because the professor, as he claimed, was afflicted by a migraine.

711chan is back!
For a while, the domain had redirected to the official 7 Eleven website, but it's finally up again! It's too early to say much about it though. Everything is the same as it was since its shutdown; no new posts have been made yet. As it stands, it's a time capsule waiting to be opened.

So, what do you think? ヽ(´∇`)ノ

Welp, I tried posting for the first time but it seems to be b0rked for me. ヽ(`Д´)ノ
Maybe 2437-san was right, the damn thing doesn't work after all. Or maybe it's on my end, who knows.

The site uses Kusaba X, which according to a poster from this thread: https://zzzchan.xyz/b/thread/128966.html (where I also found about 711chan's revival) is unstable. So make of that what you will.
And I was looking forward to posting there too. Oh well. (;´Д`)
>>
There's a reason why everyone generally sticks with lynxchan or jschan these days, boring as they are ^^;
>>
Disregard above post! It works nao! ( ´ω`)
On another note, it's nice to see that within the couple of days it's been up, there's already been a lot of activity. What will the future hold for 711chan?

>I think we're at a crossroads where Heyuri can either sit idly by and fade into staleness and irrelevance, or put pedal to teh metal and remain the place to be ヽ(´∇`)ノ

Yawn. Let me know when 712chan is out.

The idea of "chuunibyou" by itself is a sort of silent rebellion against the riajuu, the normies that have plagued our existence since forever.
Do not kill the part of you that is considered embarrassing, kill the part that gets embarrassed.

normie is an ok word and exists way longer than 4chan, so shut up

Pixel art is a retarded term, because all digital art is "pixel art"
>>
It's called pixel art because it's created on a pixel-by-pixel level, not because it's made up of pixels (^^;

Also it's totally possible to make digital art that consists of code/instructions rather than pixels...

If you look closely the book says "MORBING" on the side which I'm pretty sure is in direct violation of rules 7 and/or 8. The "moderator" that said it shouldn't have been deleted should be demodded and permab& or at least severely punished for defending that vile "image". I'm literally going to kill myself if I ever see another "image" like that again. 😞🔫

(USER WAS SEVERELY PUNISHED FOR THIS POST)

i made the thread that OP is (presumably) complaining about and im still not sure what the point of this is...

donmai, the thread is fine. I think only some image in it was deleted because it contains some new memes most of us seem to be unaware of unsure

It's a little annoying how all the text is sometimes invisible for a few seconds when you load a page on Heyuri. Consider fixing it by adding "font-display:swap;" into teh CSS. Like this:

@font-face {
font-family: 'Osaka';
font-style: normal;
unicode-range: U+0-10FFFF;
font-weight: normal;
src: url('https://static.heyuri.net/css/Osaka.woff');
font-display: swap;
}

This causes the browser to use an alternate/default font until the font file has finished loading, and then swaps to the correct font.

should be fixed now
